Mountain High Racing to the River’s Edge

The Westwood Motorcycle Racing Club

The Westwood Motorcycle Racing Club (WMRC) began in 1959, and enjoyed many years of competitive racing at the Westwood circuit in Coquitlam with regional and national races being held there on a regular basis. Unfortunately, the Westwood circuit was closed in 1990 for land development, but thanks to it’s very dedicated members the WMRC was able to survive without a home track for over 10 years.

In 2001 the WMRC was invited to hold a “Test & Tune” day at Mission Raceway Park to see if it was feasible to run motorcycles on the 1.9KM 9 turn road course. It was deemed to be safe enough for motorcycle roadracing and the first full WMRC racing season started in 2002. Yearly improvements to Mission Raceway Park included the re-configuration of Turn 1, the purchase and deployment of Air Fence in key corners resulting in a safer, faster and more enjoyable track.

Our Marshals

WMRC Marshals are right up close to the action and are a critical component of our events.

Stationed in various parts of the circuit, they are responsible for the safety and security of those on track and are on the scene at the first sign of danger or an incident. This is a demanding, yet hugely rewarding position to hold and we, the WMRC racers, are beholden to them.

Such is the calibre of our Marshals, many have been invited to volunteer at high profile events such as MotoGP, World Superbike, WERA and IndyCar.

Under the dedicated leadership of Marshal coordinator Marion Sampson, the WMRC Marshals continue to look after the safety of racers, the spectators and each other.

If you would like to join them and have the best seat in the house, please contact the WMRC Executive at Exec@wmrc.ca.
