So we had a new event this weekend where a bike's aftermarket oil filter popped (dumping oil into the belly pan) and only avoided disaster because the rider had already decided to exit the track. Very lucky. Our neighbour clubs down south have recently introduced rules banning aftermarket (external) oil filters. Personally, I thought we should consider doing the same, even before the latest event. Also, I think it would be wise for us to introduce rules for brake lever guards and sprocket guards (sharkfin guards). There are lots of cheap parts on ebay these days that work just fine. Obviously for next year since we are almost done 2017. Discuss!
I would agree...the end of the oil filter pulled away from the main body. as for shark fin and front brake lever guard, completely agree as well. i think that the oil filter thing would be for race only as its the end of it that gets secured with race wire to a hard point and that is where i feel the failure happens.
Yeah, I assumed it only applied to events that are subject to our race rulebook. Most trackday riders are likely using OEM anyhow.
