Its been 12ish years since I raced novice at Mission - haven't had a track bike since. Recently moved to the Fraser Valley, did a couple track days with a friend this past season, and now I have a track bike again! (ktm smr560) I expect to do mission, pitt meadows, and maybe the ridge depending on timing/costs/how the bike likes long straights. Looking for a lap timer - I keep hearing GPS is the way to go, but will that negate the pitt meadows cone track since track layouts need to be loaded? Is an XT and beacon the best bet? Any help is appreciated.
Hello Thrills, I have the XT racing gpx pro and it is awesome. Tracks and lays out PMTD layouts with ease, just turn it on go out run a few laps and the track map is already loaded when you come in to pit. I only bought it because it was a great deal used off of FB I really don't have the bank roll to buy a brand new one. Lots of people I know use the SV racing parts beacon timer and I never heard them say anything bad about it ever. Hope that helps, Manny
Which brings me to ask a question. Does your device give you any idea of how long a single lap of the track is (in km)? The only information I go by right now is from the SCCBC track configuration (which we don't use) which is 2.12 km. Anybody else using a GPS based lap timer that can give me a lap length within 2 decimal points?
the gpx pro does display the total km of the specific track layout, not sure how accurate it is though. For mission it says it is a 2.09 km circuit. Manny
Thank you Manny. That's .03 km shorter than the layout SCCBC uses that includes the sweeper from Turn 7 out onto the front straight that we no longer use. Anyone else? I think Dean Drolet has a GPS based lap timer.
Using Google maps distance measuring tool... WMRC lap (down the center of the track) 2.12 km WMRC lap , approximate race line 2.09 km SCCBC lap (down the center of the track) 2.14 km
Holy cow, Steve. you really went to town on this one. Thank you. I'm going to pass the SCCBC lap map on to Marc Ramsay, their Registrar.
Well you guys were no help the XT gps units are way too much $$. I ordered a Starline Stealth 4-Lite GPS unit. I'm getting itchy for spring! http://www.starlane.com/vedit/15/cr...co-acquisizione-dati-PRODOTTI.asp?idprod=1147
